Restart after crash#330

I use a Briteq DMS-26 DMX splitter/merger. It has 2 DMX inputs (master / backup). In backup mode, when the master input fails, control immediately switches to the controller connected to the backup input. This way we can avoid sudden blackouts in case of problems with the master controller. Unfortunately, when the master controller starts up again after reboot/power cycle, the console outputs zero at all DMX addresses. This will create an unwanted blackout. Same problem when I set “Keep last DMX output on DMX input failure”.
Wouldn’t it be possible to set a flag in nvRAM (create a small file) on normal startup to indicate the show has started. This flag can be reset (file deleted) on normal shutdown indicating the show has ended. On power loss or other failure, the reboot sequence won’t clear the flag (delete the file). At startup time the software will know that it came back out of a dead situation and can ask whether to start from all zero or if the show must go on. When changing any DMX output, the new DMX output should be saved somehow so it can be retrieved after power cycle/reboot. This way, the console can start up using the last DMX output values, avoiding sudden unwanted black out.
I understand there will be other issues (fader positions, active virtual executors, …). But at least we can wait for the right time to change output when a sudden blackout wonˋt be a major problem.

Hi,

this is more or less defined by the hardware in conjunction with firmware and not something we can change.

We’ll keep this in mind for future products.
